Oklahoma City is stepping onto the world stage as it prepares to host events during the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Hear how our city secured this incredible opportunity and what it means for the future of our community. Sue Hollenbeck, Executive Manager/Special Projects Manager for the City of Oklahoma City, will share the story behind OKC’s journey to becoming an Olympic venue, the partnerships and planning that made it possible, and what architects, designers, and the broader community can expect as preparations move forward.

Sue Hollenbeck has been the Executive Manager / Special Projects Manager for the City of Oklahoma City since 2021. She works as the contract manager for the city’s major athletic and entertainment venues that includes the Paycom Center (NBA arena), Oklahoma City Convention Center, Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark (AAA MiLB), Devon Park at USA Softball and OKC Fairgrounds, negotiating leases, facility operations, financial stewardship, and more. She will contract manage the new $140M multipurpose stadium and $1B downtown arena when they open in late 2027 and 2028 respectively. She is also the City’s liaison for the LA28 Olympic Games working closely with LA28. TeamOKC (LOC for the Games), city departments and security. Before joining the City of Oklahoma City, Sue was the Director of Sports Business for the Oklahoma City Convention and Visitors Bureau where she worked since 2008. She was responsible for supporting and working with annual events such as the NCAA Women’s College World Series, the 25,000 runner OKC Memorial Marathon to events held on the Oklahoma River. She worked with the NBA, NCAA, USOPC and more to recruit new sporting events and sports meetings to Oklahoma City. Before she went to the Bureau, she worked at the Oklahoma City Boathouse Foundation where she was the Director of Events. There she opened the first boathouse on the river, the $3.5M Chesapeake Boathouse and helped produce events such as the Head of the Oklahoma Regattas, the 2008 USA Canoe/Kayak Olympic Trials and the 2007 Rowing World Challenge.

Hollenbeck’s background in athletics includes: student athletic trainer for TCU (Texas Christian University) and a graduate assistant athletic trainer for Baylor University where she earned Masters in Sports Management.  She also worked for SMU (Southern Methodist University) in their athletic department. She has worked in almost every level of athletics from youth sports camps to NCAA collegiate events and adult club programs and events.  She has also worked in a NAIA college, Oklahoma City University, in events and stewardship and has been a development professional, raising money and producing events, for a local OKC non-profit organization. She is member of Leadership OKC Class 36.
