AIA Central Oklahoma could not do all its events and programs without the outstanding support and volunteerism we receive for our AIA, Associate AIA and Allied members.  Below is a list of our current committees, please let us know if you would like to get involved and join a committee in 2019.  Please email your interest to aiacoc@cox.net .

AIA Luncheon Committee:

This Committee is responsible for planning the luncheon programs for the year.  There are 5 luncheons throughout the year and we work to have 2 out of town speakers and 3 local speakers.

  • Committee members are asked to assist with speaker ideas as well as reaching out to potential speakers.

Committee members serve a one year team and a chairman will be elected at the first committee meeting.

 

Associates Committee

The Associates Committee is responsible for assisting the AIACOC Associate Director in planning ARE study programs targeted at our Associate AAI member studying to take the ARE.

  • Committee members are asked to assist the Associate Director in planning, programming and fundraising for the study programs provided by the chapter.

Committee members serve a one year team and the AIA Associate Director will serve as Chairman.

 

AIA Sporting Clays Tournament Committee

This committee is responsible for planning and carrying out the annual sporting clays tournament each Spring.

  • Committee members are asked to help plan, organize and fundraise for the event.
  • Committee members are asked to arrive early to the event to help set up and stay after the event to help clean up.

Committee members serve a one year team and a chairman will be elected at the first committee meeting.

 

AIA Architecture Tour Committee

The Annual AIA Architecture Tour is the chapter’s largest public outreach event.  It showcases 8 locations (5 residential, 2 commercial) projects designed by an architect.

  • The committee is responsible for encouraging nominations, selecting the tour locations, fundraising, promotion, and organization of the event.
  • In addition, each committee member will be assigned a location on the tour and will be the liaison for their location and expected to be at the location for the duration of the tour.

Committee members serve a one year team and a chairman will be elected at the first committee meeting.

 

AIA Central Oklahoma Honor Awards Committee (in odd numbered years)

The AIA Central Oklahoma Honor Awards honors individuals and firms for their contributions to the profession and the built environment.

  • This committee will encourage nominations, select the honorees, fundraise and assist in the planning of the Honor Awards Luncheon.
  • The committee members are asked to assist with set up and tear down for the event.

Committee members serve a one year team and a chairman will be elected at the first committee meeting.

 

AIA Golf Tournament

This event is the chapter’s largest fundraiser and helps fund our programs and events throughout the year.

  • The committee is responsible for making fundraising calls to secure sponsorship of the tournament as well as encouraging architects to participate in the tournament.
  • Committee members are expected to attend the tournament as a player or a volunteer.

Committee members serve a one year team and a chairman will be elected at the first committee meeting.

 

AIA Kickball Tournament Committee

Each year AIA Central Oklahoma hosts a kickball tournament where our architectural firms compete against one another for bragging rights and a trophy.   The KICKIN’ IT Committee is responsible for organizing the event, recruiting teams, fundraising, as well as, setting up and tearing down the day of the event.

  • The committee is asked to assist in organizing the event, recruiting teams, securing sponsors and volunteering for set up and tear down the day of the tournament.

Committee members serve a one year team and a chairman will be elected at the first committee meeting.

 

AIA Continuing Education Committee

The AIA Continuing Education Committee is responsible for providing continuing education opportunities to members of the Central Oklahoma Chapter throughout the year.

  • The committee is responsible for planning, organizing and fundraising for CE events and programs. These programs will be a mix of lunch and learns, cocktails and credit program as well as other full or half day programs.

 

AIACOC Local Advocacy Committee

The Local Advocacy Committee is much like the state Government Affairs Committee, just on a local level.

  • This committee is charged with promoting the role architects play in our community by meeting with local jurisdictions, promoting architect participation on boards and commissions and responding to issues that affect the profession of architecture and the built environment.
  • This committee will meet a minimum of four times a year. \

Local Advocacy Committee members serve a three year team and the committee chairman is elected by members of the committee each year.

 

AIA Membership Committee

The AIA Central Oklahoma Membership Committee is responsible for recruiting new members to the chapter as well as working to retain our current members.

  • Committee members are tasked with organizing recruitment drives or events, member appreciation activities etc.

Committee members serve a two year team and a chairman will be elected by the committee members.

 

Women In Architecture

Women In Architecture was formed to advocate for women in the profession through recognition, networking, professional development and mentorship.

This committee will:

  • Provide mentorship and networking opportunities
  • Increase visibility of women by celebrating past and present contributions.
  • Research issues relevant to the retention of women in architecture and developing best practice recommendations architecture firms.
  • Make presentations to the AIA Central Oklahoma Chapter
  • Host women designed project tours

Committee members will serve a three year term and the chairman will be elected by the committee members.

 

AIACOC Committee on the Environment (COTE)

The AIACOC Committee on the Environment (COTE) works to advance, disseminate, and advocate—to the profession, the building industry, and the public—design practices that integrate built and natural systems and enhance both the design quality and environmental performance of the built environment. COTE serves as the community and voice, on behalf of and at the direction of the AIACOC Board of Directors, regarding sustainable design.

AIACOC COTE reflects the profession’s commitment to provide healthy and safe environments for people and is dedicated to preserving the earth’s capability of sustaining a shared high quality of life.

Goals of AIACOC COTE:

  • To advance the importance of sustainable design to our fellow architects, within the Institute, and to the broader public.
  • To educate architects about the environmental and energy-related impacts of design decisions & about how to incorporate sustainable design into daily practice.
  • To define and promote the cutting edge of sustainable design for our profession.
  • At the request of the AIACOC Board, communicate the AIA’s environmental and energy-related concerns to the public and private sectors and influence the decisions of the public, professionals, clients, and public officials on the impact of their environmental and energy-related decisions.
  • To educate architects on regulatory, performance, technical and building science issues and how those issues influence architecture. Educate the architectural profession on programming, designing, and managing building performance.

The AIACOC COTE Committee is a group (of at least four or as many as 8) of AIA, Associate AIA and Allied members of AIA Central Oklahoma. Committee members will serve a term of three years and the chair of the AIACOC COTE Committee will be elected by committee members each year.  The AIACOC COTE Committee will be expected to fundraise as needed to accomplish the goals of the committee.

AIA OKLAHOMA – THE STATE CHAPTER- COMMITTEES

AIA OKLAHOMA 2019 FALL CONVENTION COMMITTEE

This committee will be responsible for planning the 2017 AIA Oklahoma Fall Convention.  It will be a working committee where members of the committee will be asked to plan sessions, sell booths and sponsorships, plan social events, promote the convention and more.  This is a statewide event and we encourage AIA, Associate AIA and Allied members from both chapters to serve on this committee.

 

AIA OKLAHOMA GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE

This committee is a statewide committee that meets monthly in Stroud, Oklahoma to help guide AIA Oklahoma’s legislative agenda.  This committee makes recommendations to the AIA Oklahoma Board of Directors.  This committee is open to AIA (licensed architect) and Associate AIA (intern architect) members from both AIA Central Oklahoma and AIA Eastern Oklahoma.  Committee members are expected to attend all Government Affairs meetings and Architect’s Blitz the Capitol.
